Spend groups — collect items, set a budget, and share an overview

Trips, weddings, home renovations, or project costs — put related items in one group and compare actual spend against the budget right away.

When you create a group, TangBoe creates and attaches a group tag automatically. That tag links items to the group, so you don’t create a duplicate tag yourself.

What Boe helps with here

  • Create a group with name, details, budget, start–end dates, and currency
  • Split status into planning, in progress, or done
  • Add items to the group, then see totals, budget progress, and spend by category
  • Lock an amount set aside for that group
  • Create subgroups, use folders, move groups, and reorder
  • Choose a cover, color, card style, or upload your own cover
  • Set a chat background per group
  • Share a link or QR Code so others can view the overview
  • Invite others to record into the same link — the owner chooses view-only or can-record (sign-in required) and can remove members

How to use spend groups

1. Create a group

  1. Open Spend groups, then tap Add spend group
  2. Set a name, budget, and currency
  3. Add details, dates, status, cover, and color as you like
  4. Save, then open the group to add items

When you add an item from the group page, TangBoe links it to the group, so actual spend and category totals update without you adding them up.

2. Add items to a group

  1. Tap a group to open details
  2. Tap Add item
  3. Choose income or expense, then enter amount, category, wallet, date, and note
  4. Check the details and save

TangBoe attaches the group tag automatically, so the item shows in the group immediately with updated spend, budget progress, and category totals. You don’t have to pick the tag yourself.

Log from the normal log button

You don’t have to start from the group page every time. Use the usual log button, then pick the tag with the same name as the group before saving. The item is included in the group automatically.

If the group or its parent has locked money, the group tag is locked too. You can’t add or remove it from an item until the group is unlocked.

3. View and edit a group

  • Tap a group card to see budget, actual spend, locked amount, and all items
  • Filter All / In progress / Planning / Done to find groups faster
  • Open the card menu to edit name, budget, dates, status, cover, or details
  • Tap an item inside the group to view or edit it

4. Subgroups and folders

Use one group as a folder, then create or move other groups into it. For example, “Japan trip” can split into “Flights”, “Stay”, and “Food”. Subgroup totals roll up to the parent.

  1. Open the menu of the group you want to move
  2. Choose Move to folder, then pick the destination
  3. To take it back out, choose Top level
  4. Press and drag a card to reorder

5. Lock money for the plan

  1. Open the group details
  2. Choose Lock money
  3. Enter the amount to set aside, then save

To use that money normally again, open the same menu and choose Unlock money.

6. Customize how groups look

  1. Open edit to pick a cover, color, or upload your own image
  2. Open card style to choose compact, small grid, full-bleed image, or large card
  3. In details, choose Chat background, then use the group cover, no background, or a custom image
  1. Open group details, then tap Share
  2. Set the link permission to View only or Can record
  3. Copy the link, send it, or show a QR Code for the recipient to scan

One link covers both viewing and inviting people to record — permission follows what the owner set. You don’t need two different links.

If the link is view-only, recipients can see the overview, budget, and items, but they cannot record into the group. Don’t send it to people who shouldn’t see the group totals.

8. Invite others to record

Set the link to Can record, then send the same link. Recipients must sign in and join. TangBoe does not copy the tag to them. It attaches the owner’s group tag to items in the recorder’s own account. Wallets and categories still belong to the recorder. Group totals count every item with this tag. Monthly reports stay per account.

  1. Open Share, choose Can record, then copy the link
  2. The recipient opens the link, signs in, and taps Join group
  3. The group appears under Shared groups, then they can add items
  4. The owner can remove members. Members can leave. Items already logged are not deleted
  5. To retire an old link, tap Change link (the old link stops working for both view and record)

A group with locked money still cannot have its tag attached, same as before.
